The co-hosts of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" pounced on Donald Trump on Monday morning, calling him out for his lie over the weekend that attorney Sidney Powell was never his legal representative.
The embattled Powell took a plea deal last Thursday in Georgia, where she faced racketeering charges, and now will provide help to investigators, which led Trump on Sunday to try and put distance between himself and her.
Taking to Truth Social early in the morning, he wrote, "Despite the Fake News reports to the contrary, and without even reaching out to ask the Trump Campaign, MS. POWELL WAS NOT MY ATTORNEY, AND NEVER WAS. In fact, she would have been conflicted."
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
That led to incredulous laughter and sarcasm from hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski with Scarborough joking, "That's interesting. I'm so confused."
After reading the post for viewers they then proceeded to nail the former president for lying by using his own words from a tweet on X, formerly known as Twitter, and comments made by former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani in a video clip.
In the November 20, 2020 Trump tweet they shared, the former president wrote: "I look forward to Mayor Giuliani spearheading the legal effort to defend OUR RIGHT to FREE and FAIR ELECTIONS! Rudy Giuliani, Joseph diGenova, Victoria Toensing, Sidney Powell, and Jenna Ellis, a truly great team, added to our other wonderful lawyers and representatives!"
"A truly great team!" host Scarborough laughed and Brzezinski simply stated, "Wow."
After sharing a clip of Giuliani -- with Powell standing by him --stating, "We're representing President Trump, and we're representing the Trump campaign. When I finish, Sidney Powell and then Jenna Ellis will follow me -- there are a lot more lawyers working on this," Scarborough jumped in to note the mention of "senior lawyers."
