'She could be removed': Nixon lawyer says Judge Cannon's days may be numbered in Trump row

The classified documents case judge may be on Special Counsel Jack Smith's last nerve.

In fact, John Dean, who served as White House Counsel for U.S. President Richard Nixon, is convinced that if U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon is reversed again, she may be given her walking papers.

"I think that's a real possibility that they think that there is still outstanding possibility she could be removed from this case," he said during an appearance on CNN's "Anderson 360." "There are some motions in front of her that they're going to be dealt with tomorrow and if if she rules the wrong way, Jack Smith might seek to remove her."

Dean pointed to motions that she will rule on including one to reconsider the manner by which sensitive evidence will or won't be made available to the potential witnesses and jurors.

So far, Cannon's decisions throughout the investigative phase of the case, where former President Donald Trump stands accused of stashing classified documents at Mar-a-Lago and lying to the feds when they attempted to recover them, broke precedent, leading to a number of embarrassing reversals with Smith going above her to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

The case, which also involves Trump's valet Walt Nauta, and Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira alleges they cooked up a scheme to prevent certain surveillance footage from being handed over to federal investigators and then dodged questions about it.

All told, Trump faces numerous felony charges and if convicted could be sent to prison for up to 20 years in prison.
