Trump and sons' 'blame game' is falling apart: analyst

While Donald Trump was facing a grilling — and responding angrily — in a Manhattan courtroom as he testified in the $250 million financial fraud trial brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, MSNBC analyst Hayes Brown suggested the former president is now in a place where he can no longer blame others.

As Brown noted, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump both tried to point fingers at their accountants and other executives at the Trump Organization when pressed by prosecutors last week over bogus financial statements.

With that defense last week going nowhere, Trump has been spending his time in the witness chair raging at the unfairness of it all because the Trump family "blame game" has reached its end.

"In Trump’s world, he is as little at fault for anything that goes wrong as he is quick to claim credit for victories that weren’t his. There’s always a scapegoat for his many failures. And his sons’ testimony shows he has passed on this trait to his children," he wrote before singling out Eric Trump and adding, "He [Eric] insisted both in court and in his previous deposition that he had 'never worked' on the company’s statement of financial condition — only for prosecutors to confront him with evidence that he had, in fact, provided information for the annual statements."

With that in mind he noted that Donald Trump has nowhere else to go when it comes to blame — unless he turns on his kids.

"Trump may famously insist on loyalty, but the buck always stops somewhere other than him. And while it would be tremendously funny if he were to spend his testimony blaming his kids for not doing their due diligence, it feels more likely that he’ll adopt their tack of blaming the accountants and lawyers," he wrote. "The problem is that prosecutors have plenty of documents in their possession that show Trump was not just aware of the scheme but was orchestrating it — and they would be more than happy to catch the former president in a lie on the witness stand."
