Trump spokesman digs in on Fox ‘indictment’ canard: ‘Your reporting is not accurate!'

A heated exchange erupted onset Thursday between MSNBC anchor Kate Snow and Trump surrogate Matt Schlapp over the FBI’s open investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server and a separate, unconfirmed investigation into the Clinton Foundation.

Dismissing the divisive rhetoric that characterized Donald Trump’s campaign as fodder for the “raw” and “rough-and-tumble” election, SchlapTrump spokesman digs in on Fox ‘indictment’ canard: ‘Your reporting is not accurate!'p argued Clinton should not make character a “central theme” in her campaign because “It’s very hard to do that when you have two active FBI investigations on you.”

Snow later asked Schlapp to comment on Trump’s recent stump speech addition where the Republican nominee claims the FBI is “near indictment” of Clinton over the Clinton Foundation, noting law enforcement officials told NBC News there have been no developments in that case.

Referencing an anonymously sourced report by Fox’s Brett Baier Wednesday, Schlapp pushed back against Snow:

“That might be what they’re telling MSNBC, but Fox broke last night—with two sources inside the FBI—that this is a serious target, this investigation of the Clinton foundation. That they’re putting more agents on it, not less, and that they think that there are serious problems on the e-mails.

…

I think it’s important for you to say what we know, which is: this is a very serious investigation.”

Snow repeated her reporting that there have been no developments in recent months, as Schlapp battled the MSNBC host:

Schlapp: Why did [FBI Director Jim] Comey then send a letter to the Democratic leaders and Republican leaders on the hill, saying that—

Snow: That’s a separate investigation. That’s the investigation about the email server, that very much exists.

Schlapp: Yes!

Schlapp: Yes and then the second investigation—

Snow: You’re conflating two things though, these are two different things.

Schlapp corrected course, saying he meant that the existence of “two separate investigations” weigh on voters mind, before restating his case against Clinton’s character, once again insisting there are two separate, high-priority investigations into the Democratic candidate.

“It is wrong to sugarcoat this and say that mostly this is almost over and they’ve already looked at it,” Schlapp argued. “That’s not correct.”

“Okay our reporting doesn’t match what you’re saying,” Snow replied, “We can agree to disagree.”

At the segment’s close, Schlapp once again tussled with Snow over her reporting of no recent developments in the Clinton Foundation investigation, charging that Clinton is making a huge mistake in closing the election on character “when the FBI is finding all types of problems with two investigations that are raging into her activities.”

“And just once again, NBC News knows of one investigation and not a second,” Snow replied.

Schlapp then launched into a chorus of “that is just not true,” telling Snow it’s “a fact” that there are two ongoing investigations and her “reporting is not accurate.”

“Okay you can make that judgment,” Snow replied.
