Some pro-Trump influencers fell for an obviously satirical flyer designed to make fun of right-wing youth group Turning Point USA's plan for an alternative Super Bowl halftime show — even though it blatantly mocks the antivax movement.
According to The Independent, "Several prominent MAGA influencers and media personalities fell for an obviously fake flyer promoting the lineup of the 'All-American' Super Bowl halftime show that right-wing organization Turning Point USA has promised to host as an alternative to Bad Bunny’s performance at the big game."
Turning Point USA, founded by recently assassinated pro-Trump activist Charlie Kirk, announced the show because of MAGA fury over Bad Bunny's opposition to the Trump administration. However, their actual lineup has not yet been announced.
Nonetheless, this fake flyer displayed a who's who of real Republican-supporting artists and musicians, getting many who didn't notice the obvious joke excited.
“WOW: It’s official. It’s happening,” John Strand, a right-wing influencer whose obstruction charges from the January 6 attack were overturned by the Supreme Court, posted on Sunday. “@TPUSA is launching the first-ever American Patriot Super Bowl Halftime Show. This is how we win. This is how we take our country back.”
The fake poster in question "announc[ed] that Kid Rock, the Trump-boosting country-rapper who kick-started the anti-trans Bud Light boycott two years ago, would be headlining a show chock-full of the leading lights in MAGA entertainment," noted the report. "Supposedly appearing alongside Rock would be hard rock guitarist Ted Nugent, who once urged Hillary Clinton to ride one of his machine guns 'into the sunset,' Greenwood, 'Try That in a Small Town' singer Jason Aldean, Fox News favorite John Rich," as well as "Forgigato Blow," likely a misspelling of MAGA rapper Forgiato Blow, who recently put out a pro-lynching song in response to the Kirk assassination.
To cap it all, the poster advertised a "guest appearance from Measles," a reference to how Trump's anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist Health and Human Services Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has presided over a resurgence of the disease.
Strand evidently realized soon after that the poster was fake, following up by posting, "The artist lineup pictured above is not official or confirmed — but the Turning Point Super Bowl Halftime Show event is, and we all look forward to seeing who’s confirmed to play."
