President Donald Trump on Monday gave a prominent place at his inauguration to major tech CEOs including X owner Elon Musk, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
In fact, the tech CEOs were even seated in front of the people whom Trump nominated to serve in his cabinet.
The symbolism of this was not lost on Politico's Jonathan Martin, who said that it was an optical gift for Democrats.
"The decision to move the ceremony inside and then hand donors seats literally right next to and behind former presidents and VP is a gift to Dems, easiest messaging in the world," he observed on X. "And if you're a Trump diehard - especially those from 2015 - it's a helluva gift for some folks who were unenthusiastic or outright opposed to his candidacy."

New York Times columnist Ezra Klein expressed a similar sentiment about Trump inviting the biggest names in tech to have such a prominent position at his inauguration.
"The reason Trump's corruption is going to be such a gift to Dems is that he doesn't try to hide it because he doesn't think it's wrong," wrote Klein. "But most Americans do think it's wrong. The oligarchs literally lining up behind him may eventually wish they hadn't. Being the face of this is good business now. But in 4 years?"
