Trump trolled by Harvard law professor over inability to keep his mouth shut -- which helps his legal opponents

Constitutional law expert Laurence Tribe ridiculed President Donald Trump during a Thursday appearance on MSNBC's "The Last Word" with Lawrence O'Donnell.

Tribe has argued 36 cases before the United States Supreme Court and is his fiftieth year teaching at Harvard Law.

He is representing the county of El Paso, Texas in a lawsuit against President Donald Trump that seeks an injunction to block the president's declaration of a national emergency to build his border wall.

Tribe's co-counsel in the lawsuit is former Acting Attorney General Stuart Gerson who also worked as top aide to President George H.W. Bush and also joined Tribe on MSNBC.

"Professor Tribe, in your long experience at the law, in so many important cases and cases you've taken to the United States Supreme Court, have you ever been on the opposite side of a litigant who was so helpful to your case in public comments that you could then simply type them right into your brief to support your position?" O'Donnell asked.

"Honestly, I have never had an opponent who was quite as helpful," Tribe replied.

"And I find it odd to say: thank you, Mr. Trump!" he added.

"But I really think that we do need to thank him for being as obvious as he is about the absence of any emergency and about the fact that he is simply trying to do what emperors and kings do, not what a president of the United States should do," Tribe concluded.
