Trump warned by aides he will be impeached if GOP loses the House in 2018 midterms: report

The White House is attempting to shore up staffing -- once again -- for the upcoming legislative year as aides and friends of President Donald Trump are warning the president he may face impeachment hearings if control of the House switches hands in the 2018 midterm elections.

According to the Washington Post, Trump is spending the holidays at Mar-a-Lago conferring with close associates and attempting to plan a path for his second year as the dark cloud of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian collusion with the Trump campaign team looms over his presidency.

Of major concern is inner White House turmoil that has staffers leaving, jobs unfilled and the unpredictable president left alone to his own devices -- which included a rambling and bizarre interview with a New York Times reporter that showed Trump still has very little grasp of his presidential duties.

According to the Post's Ashley Parker and Josh Dawsey, "In recent weeks, the president has heard from a growing number of outside advisers, confidants and members of Congress, warning that the White House is poorly positioned to handle the tough 2018 political landscape."

"This week in Palm Beach, Trump has been minimally staffed, especially around Christmas — a period during which he called outside friends and advisers, receiving another round of warnings about the upcoming political cycle," the report continues. "The president has been informed by aides and friends that if he loses the House in 2018, not only would Democrats almost certainly begin impeachment proceedings against him but his entire legislative agenda would be imperiled, making any 2020 reelection bid far more challenging."

The report goes on to note that the Trump has seemed relaxed while on his golfing vacation at his Florida resort as White House Chief of Staff John Kelly continues restructuring and attempting to fill vacancies as quickly at they occur.
