Trump will never be as beloved as Mitt Romey in Utah: FiveThirtyEight writer

A FiveThirtyEight elections writer pointed out the fault in Donald Trump's logic when he claimed he "won big" over Utah Sen.-elect Mitt Romney.

"In Utah, the only constituency that matters for Romney (now), Romney won 63 [percent] in 2018," reporter Geoffrey Skelley tweeted Wednesday night. "Trump won 45 [percent] there in 2016."

Skelley quoted a much-talked-about Trump tweet from earlier in the day in which the president implored the former Massachusetts governor and onetime presidential nominee to be a "team player.

In response to an attempted clarification from coworker Jody Avirgan, Skelley noted that Trump was "using the wrong data point for what matters here (not for the first time)."

"National doesn't matter," the reporter wrote. "Utah does."
