Trump's own FBI director warned him not to release the Nunes memo: report

Officials at the Justice Department, including Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appealed to White House Chief of Staff John Kelly on Monday to try and halt the publication of a memo alleging abuses by the FBI, the Washington Post reports.

Rosenstein met with Kelly just before the House Intelligence Committee voted to release the memo, written by staffers for committee chairman Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA). According to the Post, Rosentein and FBI Director Christopher Wray warned the publication of the memo “could jeopardize classified information.”

Rosenstein also warned that the memo does not accurately describe how the Department of Justice conducts investigation. “Rosenstein did much of the talking,” the Post reports.

Donald Trump is reportedly inclined to release the memo, though White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Tuesday said there are “no plans” to release it.

Nunes on Tuesday refused to say whether he worked with the White House on his anti-FBI memo.
