The two-party system has one normal entity and another that appears ‘insane’: Center for Politics leader

In a CNN report by John Harwood, the nonpartisan director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, Larry Sabato, made it clear that the two-party system in the United States has fallen apart.

After the past three months, he told CNN that "America's two-party system now has one normally functioning entity and another that appears 'insane.'"

"The Republican Party is unsalvageable as a center-right party," Sabato explained. "You can't treat the situation as normal."

Even Republicans recognize that things aren't well in the contemporary GOP.

"The broad picture of the Republican Party is really ugly," said former national GOP official Jack Pitney. "A hot mess of nuts and cowards."

While last week's far-right issues with the GOP may have more to do with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), this week, Republicans will be facing the reality created by former President Donald Trump's lawyers in the second impeachment trial. Already, a majority of Americans believe that Trump should be convicted, according to public polling. It's already more than the first impeachment.
