Former Donald Trump attorney Ty Cobb expressed his astonishment on MS NOW's "The Beat" Friday evening about how badly the Trump administration's Justice Department is bungling the legal cases against the president's political enemies and critics.
"I'll put those faces right backup here, Mr. Cobb, becausebetween the last time you and Ispoke and now about a week,we've got those six newlawmakers, most of whom areveterans or intelligenceveterans of some kind, and theytried to charge them this week. They just failed," said anchor Ari Melber. "How do youlook at that in concert with [former CNN journalist Don]Lemon as a defendant andthese other individuals?"
"So I think those theCongressional Six, if you will, folks, and Mr. Lemon and [Defense Secretary] Pete Hegseth — you know, they allwrap into the First Amendmentissues," said Cobb.
"You know, a judge in D.C., Richard Leon, yesterdayexcoriated Hegseth and theDepartment of whatever it is,Defense for, you know, even attempting to stifle the FirstAmendment privileges of MarkKelly, a man who had flown 39combat missions and four SpaceShuttles and served the countryfor decades," said Cobb. "And he and hiscongressional colleagues were —they attempted to charge themfor truthfully explaining inthe terms that exist in theUniform Code of MilitaryConduct that, you know, themilitary, when asked to commitwar crimes, is not obligated tofollow illegal orders. So theygot they got kicked out ofcourt there. You know, they'recoming back to try to defendthemselves on additionalgrounds, which I think will goagainst them."
"You've got Don Lemon, of course, that's aflagrant First Amendmentviolation," Cobb continued. "The magistrate ... only a few days agoor a week or more ago, throughout the government'srequest to to indict Mr. Lemon, the federal judge to whom theyappealed, it ruled likewise in the Eighth Circuit Court ofAppeals, also refused to honorwhat the government hadattempted to do."
"Now, theylater got a grand juryindictment," said Cobb. "Unlike theCongressional Six, where, where, where not a single grand juryjuror is reported to have votedin favor of indictment, that Imean, it's, it's highly unusualthat you don't get a true bill. It's, I think, unprecedented inAmerica that not a single grandjuror would vote for a truebill, and only with Jeanine Pirro, who couldn't indict ... the hamsandwich, and Miss Halliganin Virginia, who, you know, attempted to indict Comey andJames unsuccessfully by actinginappropriately. Only theseTrump sycophants that areappointed to these positionsare, are flailing in that regard."
