An updated bill in Utah could make the 10 Commandments required as part of U.S. history courses in schools throughout the state, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.
Utah GOP Rep. Michael Petersen sponsored the proposed state law, saying the 10 Commandments has an “undeniable place” in U.S. history.

“The 10 Commandments, while it is a religious document, is a very historic document, in that it colored the way our founders wrote the Constitution, wrote the Declaration [of Independence]. It colored the way they developed our civil society," Petersen said.
HB0269 is an updated version of a previous bill that required the 10 Commandments to be displayed in classrooms.
“I’m anticipating that teachers wouldn’t teach this as a Sunday school class,” Petersen said. “This is a document that helps [students] understand what were the founders thinking about when they founded the country.”
