Video of armed motorist stalking LAPD officer was actually part of '90s rap group's' comeback

Authorities in Los Angeles arrested one person in connection with a video posted online depicting a person brandishing a gun while secretly recording a local police officer, the Los Angeles Times reported.

However, Police Chief Charlie Beck during a press conference on Tuesday that, contrary to appearances, the video is not an indicator of an actual threat against any officer.

"We believe, based on interviews, that the video was made not as a precursor to an attack on a police officer, but in a manner to support the credibility of the person in the video for a rap career," Beck explained.

The 15-second video, which first surfaced on the photo and video-sharing site Instagram and was also distributed on Twitter, was actually posted by an unidentified "90s rap group."

The clip begins from the point of view of a motorist stopped behind an officer's patrol vehicle. The camera then pans down to show the motorist holding a gun. The camera then turns back toward the patrol car, at which point the officer can be seen getting out.

KABC-TV reported that, according to detectives, three suspects have been identified in connection with the video. The unidentified officer is a part of the department's Central Division.

Beck said on Tuesday that authorities have not made contact with the person they believe is holding the gun in the video, but that they have served a search warrant on his home in Downey and contacted his attorney. According to Beck, the man has already been convicted once for carrying a loaded gun inside a vehicle.

"This individual knows who he is and should turn himself in," the chief said.

The other man arrested, is a "secondary suspect" who had an outstanding warrant related to another case.
