Iconic comfort food chain Waffle House made waves this week by announcing that customers must pay a 50-cent surcharge for each egg that comes with their meal until further notice.
Experts say the explosion in egg prices isn't directly attributable to President Donald Trump, but has been driven by a global bird flu outbreak.
Nonetheless, commenters on social media seized on the Waffle House news to mock the president's failure to deliver on one of his signature campaign promises, which was to solve food inflation on day one of his presidency — something presidents don't typically have direct control over, but that could potentially be exacerbated even more if Trump goes through with his tariff proposals.
"Waffle House is now charging 50 extra cents per egg as prices spike under Trump," wrote podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen.

"Restaurant chain Waffle House has placed a 50 cent surcharge on eggs as prices rise. I don’t remember this ever happening under President Biden," wrote singer-songwriter Ricky Davila.
"MAGA: Trump is going to make the price of eggs go down; Waffle House (2 weeks into the Trump presidency): there's an additional charge specifically for eggs now," wrote Mashable reporter Matt Binder.
