Amid the horrific world that residents of Washington, D.C. have faced over the past few months, something beautiful has finally happened: the first large winter storm in years has blanketed the city in fluffy, sparkling snow.
Over the first 24 hours of the storm, the city has seen about 5 inches of the winter precipitation and streets are being quickly cleared ahead of the second round of the storm. As the next storm approaches, there is a fear that it will bring ice that will shutdown the city on Monday.
Already the White House has canceled President Joe Biden's meetings at the State Department with anticipation that the weather will get bad.
But most residents have spent Sunday enjoying the fun.
The Washington National Mall Snowball Fight of 2020 brought many residents to enjoy in the silliness.
Despite pleas from Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), the Capitol Police and National Guard wouldn't let children have access to the U.S. Capitol hill, which is generally regarded among the best sledding hill in the city. Residents did find some options though.
But the ones who truly stole the show were the pandas Smithsonian National Zoo, who made their own snowy adventure for the cameras.
