Wasserman-Schultz: Romney ‘refers to women as binders and resumes'

Seeking to bolster President Obama's dwindling lead among female voters, Democratic National Committee Chair and Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) said on Sunday that Romney talks about women as if they're paper, not people.

Appearing on ABC's "This Week," Wasserman Schultz argued that the way Romney talked about women in the most recent presidential debate showed how he feels about women as a whole.

"On Lilly Ledbetter, I mean I think it's very telling. Mitt Romney, on a point blank question the other night in the debate, refused to answer whether he believes in equal pay for equal work," she  said. "He refers to women as binders and resumes. You know, a callous sort of brush-off."

In last Tuesday's debate, Romney claimed he would promote women's values because as governor he had that he used to staff his administration with qualified females. That remark quickly and predictably went viral, spawning and giving Democrats an attack line to beat back on inroads polls have found Romney is making among female voters.

Wasserman Schultz's phrasing is a slight tweak on a line the Obama team has also used over the past week. The day after the last debate, Obama's Twitter account posted, "Last night, the President talked about women as breadwinners. Romney talked about them as resumes in 'binders.' That tweet then linked to a video of Romney's "binders" comment on the campaign's YouTube page titled, "Mitt Romney's Condescending Views Toward Women."
