WATCH: CNN's Kate Bolduan chokes up while discussing suicide of beloved chef Anthony Bourdain

CNN's Kate Bolduan on Friday delivered a moving tribute to the late Anthony Bourdain, who took his own life this week while staying at a hotel in France.

During a discussion with Marc Murphy, a fellow chef and a friend of Bourdain's, Bolduan tried unsuccessfully to hold back tears as she discussed his tragic passing this week.

"He was so open about his -- open about his struggles with drugs, with life, and he would talk about his young daughter," she said while crying. "How do you wrap your heart and your mind around that?"

Murphy replied that the brain is just like any other organ, and he said that when someone has a mental illness, it can cause them as much harm as when someone has heart failure.

"It is something we all need to understand more," he said. "And all we can do is praise Anthony for what he brought to us and, you know, what he showed us."

At the end of the segment, Bolduan summed up Bourdain's career and the life he led.

"If Anthony was an advocate for anything, he once said, it is to move as far as you can, as much as you can across the ocean or simply across the river," she said. "Walk in someone else's shoes or at least eat their food. It is a plus for everybody."
