WATCH: Giant meteor explodes over Siberia turning night into day

A meteor exploded in the sky over Khakassia in southern Siberia, early Tuesday morning, briefly turning the dark morning sky as bright as daylight, reports the Siberian Times.

According to witnesses, they saw a flash followed by a bright burst of light before they heard what sounded like thunder.

"I went for a walk with my friends," one woman said. "We stopped by the shop and my friend screamed when she saw a bright flash, and then there was an explosion. All the car alarms immediately went off. We were so scared. My father said windows were vibrating. We think it was a meteor."

According to local officials there was no damage on the ground.
