Five police officers have been shot in an active shooter situation in South Carolina.
The active shooter took place in the area of Vintage Place and Hoffmeyer Rd, in Florence, South Carolina, said local news reports. First responders have asked: "We are advising everyone to stay away from this area."
A suspect was arrested and taken into custody, though police are still asking people to stay away as it is still an ongoing crime scene.
Steve Roth, an executive producer at WBTW News 13 in Myrtle Beach, SC, tweeted that at one point SWAT agents stormed a home of the suspects. That's when three deputies were hit.
He also reported that the suspect did surrender to deputies after he spoke with a negotiator. The shooter is now being taken to a hospital for treatment. The network is still awaiting an update on additional injuries other than the five shot.
One officer has been confirmed to have died.
