Missouri governor Jay Nixon has declared a state of emergency in the town of Ferguson and has instituted a curfew beginning this evening in an attempt to quell tensions in the troubled town.
According to KMBC, Nixon said that, although mostprotesters were peaceful, the state would not accept a handful of looters endangering the community.
The curfew in Ferguson will run from midnight to 5 a.m.
"We must first have and maintain peace. This is a test. The eyes of the world are watching," Nixon said. "We cannot allow the ill will of the few to undermine the good will of the many."
Speaking at the news conference, Missouri State Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson, who assumed leadership for security in Ferguson, said that 40 FBI agents had started going door-to-door near the scene of the shooting, speaking with people who might have seen the incident or have information about it.
Tensions rose once gain in Ferguson last night after police released video of Brown in a convenience store allegedly stealing a box of cigarillos. Police were unable to link the connection between the alleged theft and the shooting of Brown by officer Darren Wilson.
