WATCH: MSNBC's Katy Tur pounds Trump White House for pushing out 'five and a half lies a day'

Following a highly contentious White House press conference, where Trump spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders chastised the press over what she termed " fake news," MSNBC host Katy Tur fired back at the White House for disseminating "five and a half lies a day."

Then she asked for an apology from Trump.

Responding to Sanders' rant about a tweet posted by the Washington Post's Dave Weigel about Trump's Florida rally -- that was subsequently deleted with an apology hours later -- Tur called out the White House over their own lies that go uncorrected.

"A less than pleased Sarah Huckabee Sanders today at the White House podium," Tur began before getting down to her own editorial commentary.

"Let's be clear about something," the MSNBC host proposed. "Reporters make mistakes -- we're human. Sometimes our sources aren't as good as they should be, sometimes we speak too soon, sometimes we mess up. But when the mistake is serious enough, we are suspended or we're fired."

"The president and this White House have misled the American public multiple times from things as innocuous as crowd size to retweeting misleading videos meant to sow divisions and fuel fear. Hello, Britain First." she pointedly added, referring to Trump publicizing videos that purported to show Muslims committing acts of violence -- that proved to be incorrect.

"In fact, the New York Times has compiled a handy list of 1,628 false claims the the president has made since taking office. That is five and a half false statements or lies per day," she continued.

"We're waiting for the apology on all of those," she smirked.
