WATCH: School board meeting on racist threats erupts after trustee calls students ‘colored’

A Las Vegas school board met to discuss racist threats in their district Thursday — but the meeting erupted when one trustee called students "colored."

Vegas' KLAS reported that Clark County School District Trustee Danielle Ford was trying to describe improving safety for students at Arbor View High School after two of its own were arrested for making racist threats on social media when she uttered the gaffe.

"There's two different problems we're experiencing right now," Ford said. "One is our lack of safety protocols — the other one is the lack of safety of colored students in general."

The trustee appeared to stumble on the term "colored" before saying it, and footage from the meeting shows another board member speaking to her off-mic.

Soon after, the audience unloaded on Ford amid her apologies.

"All your words [mean] nothing," one meeting attendee told the trustee. The audience member sarcastically repeated the term "colored," causing others to laugh.

Footage from the board meeting also shows black audience members walking out following Ford's statement.

"That, to me, shows me that the board is not ready to tackle this issue," an audience member told KLAS.
