WATCH: Tennis player’s racist outburst at black referee gets him disqualified mid-match

A 20-year-old Russian tennis player was disqualified from his match at the United States Tennis Association (USTA)'s Savannah Challenger event late last week when he went on a racist rant against a black referee.

According to the New York Post, player Daniil Medvedev immediately lost his second-round match against U.S. player Donald Young.

A statement from the USTA, Medvedev was disqualified due to "aggravated unsportsmanlike conduct when he questioned the impartiality of the chair umpire, because of her race."

A live mic caught Medvedev muttering to French, "I know that you are friends. I am sure about it.”

The full contents of Medvedev's remarks have not been disclosed to the public. Tennis commentator Mike Cation said, "I wish we’d picked up what Medvedev said because it must have been pretty bad."

French called over tournament supervisor Keith Crossland at the end of the game to discuss Medvedev's remarks. Crossland then spoke with Medvedev and handed the match to Young on an unsportsmanlike conduct default.

The Russian player took to Facebook to issue a public apology, writing, "I let the emotion take over and lost my temper for which I am genuinely sorry.”
