While the panel on ABC's "The View" may have been united on Thursday in their disappointment with Fox News' Mike Huckabee, on Friday, they erupted in a heated discussion over whose ideas are better for the economy, Democrats or Republicans and whether raising the minimum wage is good for workers.
Co-host Joy Behar wondered if President Donald Trump's surprise debt ceiling deal with Democrats will change people's perceptions, saying, "I think it's an interesting way that a lot of people that voted for him are beginning to see now with this that Democrats are better for us than the Republican Party."
"Oh, I don't know about that," said conservative panelist Jebediah Bila, who said she objects to Democrats' plan to raise the national minimum wage because "the minimum wage hurts the worker. They get fired."
"Did you just say the minimum wage hurts the worker?" Whoopi Goldberg asked incredulously.
"Go read Milton Friedman," said Bila. "When you raise the minimum wage in places often times companies make up their dollar by firing workers. They are gonna make that bottom dollar."
"There are times when you have to raise the minimum wage because it is the right thing to do," Goldberg said, pointing to the 2008 economic crash and saying that people who are working minimum wage jobs now aren't 20-year-olds, they're "40 and 50-year-old people working and trying to keep stuff together."
