Performance poet Meg Beech in the United Kingdom showed her support for feminist and historian Mary Beard on Monday with some cleverly worded verses condemning Twitter trolls.

"I am finding it tough to grow up in a world where Twitter is littered with abuse towards women, where intelligent, eminent, eloquent females are met with derision because she should be able to analyze Augustus' dictums, or Early AD epithets, without having to scroll through death, bomb and rape threats," she said in a video uploaded to YouTube.

Beard, a Professor of Classics at the University of Cambridge and television host, received a bomb threat via Twitter on Saturday night.

Beard, along with other high-profile women including Guardian columnist Hadley Freeman, Independent columnist Grace Dent and Time magazine's Catherine Meyer, have been subjected to scores of death and rape threats on Twitter. The intimidation campaign against women began after feminist Caroline Criado-Perez launched a successful campaign to keep a woman on future British banknotes.

Twitter’s general manager in the UK, Tony Wang, apologized on Monday for the flood of threats targeting women. He said Twitter planned to implement a new anti-abuse policy and reporting tools, which would be applied worldwide.
