WATCH: Trump defender awkwardly ducks Joy Reid question whether Trump voters knew he was an 'idiot'

Appearing on AM Joy on Saturday morning, a stalwart Trump-supporting reporter for the Washington Examiner awkwardly ducked questions about President Donald Trump's fitness to hold office and wanted nothing to do with talking about whether Trump voters were aware they were voting for an "idiot" in 2016.

Sitting on panel with Trump biographer Tim O'Brien, the Examiner's Jen Kerns was forced to listen to host Reid describe names that Trump aides use for the president, according to Michael Wolff's blockbuster book 'Fire and Fury.'

According to Reid, "They say insulting Donald Trump is the thing you could not do" and the one thing "that everybody was guilty of."

"For Steve Mnuchin and Reince Priebus, he was an 'idiot,'" she read. "For Gary Cohn he was 'dumb as expletive.' For H.R. McMaster he was a 'dope.' What do you make of the fact that people inside the administration are commonly constantly referring to Donald Trump as an unintelligent dope and an idiot?"

"The biggest premise of this book, that I think is false, is that somehow like this chaos in the West Wing is somehow a crime," Kerns began. "We know of people that are CEO's, entrepreneurs, inventors, people like Donald Trump, they love chaos. they love a difference of opinion, diversity of opinion."

"Diversity of opinion about intelligence?" Reid pressed. "Would you allow somebody in an organization you were running,  somebody who was considered dumb, a dope, an idiot, chaos to reign? Does that sound like a sound organization?"

"I think American people knew what they were getting," Kerns parried.

"Did they know they were getting a dope, an idiot, dumb?" Reid shot back

"One of the criticisms so far of the book has been the sourcing of Mr. Wolff," Kerns said, deflecting from Reid's interrogation. "In his own introduction he said there were differing opinions, differing sources, and he even said he believed that some sources were not factual."

"Anybody who covered Trump for a long time knows everything in this book rings true," the MSNBC host explained. "You can go back and forth on the sourcing and methods, but the Donald Trump in this book is the Donald Trump the press has been covering for the last year, and it's the Donald Trump that New Yorkers have known for three decades."
