West Virginia's GOP governor stuns crowd at school event: 'Nobody's going to shoot at me, right?'

During a speech at a school in Martinsburg, West Virginia, the state's governor shocked his constituents when he joked about them shooting him less than two weeks after a mass shooting in a Parkland, Florida high school.

"Nobody's going to shoot at me or anything, are you?" Gov. Jim Justice (R), who was a billionaire coal executive before winning the governorship, asked the crowd.

The remark, filmed by teacher Jess Spring from the school's bleachers, drew lively discussion from the crowd.

"No promises," one crowd member responded.

Teachers in West Virginia will go on strike for a fourth consecutive day on Tuesday amid calls for better wages and benefits. Public schools in the entire state were closed on Monday during the strike.
