'West Wing' cast members slam Sarah Huckabee Sanders: You're no C. J. Cregg

Cast members of the hit TV series "The West Wing" knocked White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders when Sanders compared herself to the show's fast-thinking, unflappable press secretary C. J. Cregg.

Sanders tweeted that she felt like her life was echoing the "Shibboleth" episode of "The West Wing" in which Cregg -- played by Allison Janney -- managed multiple crises simultaneously, including a pair of turkeys set for pardoning.

"We had a surprise visitor in my office today and got to live a real life version of an episode of the 'West Wing,'" wrote Huckabee Sanders.

Actor Bradley Whitford -- who played chief of staff Josh Lyman -- replied, "I know C.J. Cregg. C.J. Cregg is a friend of mine. You’re no C.J. Cregg," a clever homage to remarks by then-Sen. Lloyd Bentsen (D-TX) in the 1988 vice presidential debate.

Bentsen was responding Sen. Dan Quayle (R-IN), who compared himself to Pres. John F. Kennedy.

"Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy. I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy," said Bentsen.

Allison Janney thanked Whitford in character, writing, "Thanks for having my back, Josh. Love, C.J."

On Friday, Huckabee Sanders got roasted on Twitter for posting a stock photo of a pie and claiming she cooked it. White House reporter April Ryan spotted the photo and challenged Sanders to provide any further photos of the pie being eaten or served, which Sanders did not.
