A high school basketball coach in Wyoming, Michigan said that a white biker shouted racial slurs at him for no reason, and part of the exchange was caught on video.
Brandoen Guyton, who is black, shared video of the incident in a Facebook post over the weekend.
"As a man of color I have never been disrespected like this in my life," he explained. "As I was heading home from my coaches meeting near 28th street and Burlingame, I heard a scream 'pay attention Nigger.'"
Guyton said that he began recording and asked the biker to repeat the comment. The man obliged, adding a middle finger.
Guyton told WXMI that he "was angry because it was unexpected and we are supposed to be in the year 2016, and a lot of people don’t believe racism exists even in [Grand Rapids]."
"I'm an African-American black man who is educated, which I believe in society, we are the biggest threats," he explained. "I want him to know that I'm a father of two."
"Can we learn from it?" Union High School basketball coach asked. "We need to. People need to stop hiding and the closet. People need to come to reality."
Guyton said that his response was to pray for the biker.
"You pray for people like him, pray for people like him every day," Guyton remarked. "Pray for those who have hatred in their heart."
