Wisconsin GOP went into massive debt trying to save Scott Walker: report

The party of fiscal responsibility reportedly went into debt floating the doomed campaign of Scott Walker, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The state GOP went into debt and maxed out a credit card, with nearly $600 a month in interest.

A review commissioned by U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) and other top Republicans determined that consultants on Walker's campaign “had few, if any, discernible job responsibilities or expectations of deliverables."

“The most immediate concerns facing the RPW are the cash flow problems and the debt we face,” according to the report. Party spokesman Charles Nichols told the Sentinel the GOP's debt reached more than $350,000 after last year’s election.

Walker, a longtime favorite of conservative funders like the Koch brothers, served as Wisconsin governor from 2011 to 2019.
