WATCH: FBI Director Wray debunks 'big lie' that Trump supporters weren't behind Capitol riots

FBI Director Christopher Wray on Tuesday debunked false claims made by allies of former President Donald Trump that Antifa provocateurs were really behind the January 6th Capitol riots.

During his appearance before the Senate, Wray was asked by Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) to comment on what he described as "the next big lie" about Trump supporters not really being responsible for the riots.

Wray replied that it was indeed Trump supporters who took part in the riots -- and no one else.

"Certainly the Capitol attack involved violent extremisms," he said. "There were quite a number... of what would we call militia violent extremists. So we have a number who self identify with the Proud Boys or the Oath Keepers, things like that. We also have a couple of instances where we've already identified individuals involved in the criminal behavior who we would put in the racially motivated violent extremists who advocate for what you would call white supremacy."

Durbin then asked Wray if there was any evidence that the attack was orchestrated by "fake" Trump supporters.

"We have not seen any evidence of that," he replied.
