Writer who parroted Russia talking points ousted at Kushner family newspaper
Senior White House advisor Jared Kushner's family owns the New York Observer though it is unclear if they had anything to do with a recent personnel decision.
According to Buzzfeed, a writer who has authored dozens of pro-Kremlin articles since 2014, left the paper recently.
“The writer Mikhail Klikushin had a relationship with a former iteration of the Observer, but obviously new leadership tends to bring change, and we do not have any current plans to work with him in the future,” editor-in-chief Ben Robinson said in a statement.
The most recent story from Klikushin seems to parrot Russia's conspiracy theory that the British staged a chemical weapons attack to blame on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
When there were previous questions about Klikushin’s 2015 stories, the former editor-in-chief, Ken Kurson, explained that the writer was a Russian national paid for his freelance articles. He defended the stories, but BuzzFeed found that they were remarkably similar to Pro-Russia propaganda.
Nearly all of the approximately 100 stories by Klikushin dealt with Russia and some have been picked up by Russian sites.
The biography page for the writer says he “attended Novosibirsk State University and received a graduate degree in Russian history before emigrating to the United States.”
