'You hate America': Cenk Uygur rips Kansas Repubs who fired woman for not going to church

Young Turks host Cenk Uygur blasted Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach (R) and his office on Thursday for allegedly firing a woman for not attending a church.

"You love religion so much you want even more restriction -- you want everybody to follow whatever religion the people believe in. You got Iran, you got Saudi Arabia. You got choices, man," Uygur said. "One of your choices is not Kansas, in the United States of America. Here, we do not do religious tests for office. You know who decided that? Our founding fathers, when they put it in the Constitution. If you don't like it, get the f*ck out of the country. Leave. Go home right now, wherever that is for you. America's not home for you. You hate America."

Kobach's office was sued by former employee Courtney Canfield, who said that she began having issues with the department in February 2013, after she refused invitations to attend church. When Canfield's grandmother, a state GOP official, reportedly refused to fire her, supervisor Erick Rucker did so himself nine months later.

While conservative Republicans like Kobach insist they want to uphold the Constitution through their various policies, Uygur said, the idea that Canfield could be fired for not attending services ran directly counter to the Sixth Amendment.

"That's what America stands for. We're the Americans," he said. "These right-wing Republicans are the most unAmerican people I've ever seen."
