‘You wore the uniform’: Tamron Hall gets up in grill of Trump adviser for whitewashing Khan attack

MSNBC host Tamron Hall refused to let Trump military adviser Ret. Rear Admiral Chuck Kubic wiggle out of answering whether or not Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump should apologize for attacking the family of a Muslim soldier who died in Iraq fighting for the U.S. Army.

During an interview on Monday, Kubic opined that although Trump had attacked Khizr Khan and his wife for appearing at the Democratic National Convention, he recognized the "anguish" of all the families who had lost loved ones in the Iraq war.

"[Donald Trump's running mate] Mike Pence voted for the Iraq war," Hall reminded Kubic. "I know that you want to talk strategy and weaponry and some of the things, quite honestly, I may not even be able to refute because I don't have those notes in front of me. I'm not as expertise as you may be on military strategy."

"But what I do know is if that war were not authorized and backed by the Bush administration, [U.S. Army Capt. Humayun Khan], [SGT. Sherwood Baker], thousands of others would not have been there. Donald Trump says he would not have supported the war in Iraq, but Mike Pence did."

"Let me go back to the core of what I asked you," she continued. "Donald Trump has not apologized to the Khan family. He put in question why a grieving mother was silent, implying somehow she was being suppressed by religion."

Kubic tried to interrupt by Hall wasn't having it.

"Please, admiral," she said. "You are a man of the military, I hope a straight shooter here. You've worn this nation's uniform. You have 12 Gold Star families, maybe many others who are heartbroken by hearing this. Step aside from being a spokesman for a campaign or a part of a campaign. Should he apologize?"

"Well, my thought is the whole issue of an apology, or not to apology [SIC] has been terribly clouded by all of the political debate back and forth between the media and everyone else," Kubic remarked. "I think it's clear that Donald Trump recognizes their grief and he recognizes the heroism of his son."

"So I'm going to take it as you saying he doesn't need to apologize," Hall quipped. "That's what I have to assume you are saying."

"I think my words speak for themselves," Kubic replied.

"I think they do," Hall concluded.
