Zoey Tur joins 'Inside Edition,' becomes first American trans TV news reporter

The syndicated news show Inside Edition said on Monday that it hired the country's first trans TV reporter in 54-year-old Zoey Tur, the Daily Mail reported.

Tur, who was known as "Chopper Bob" Tur while working in Los Angeles, will be a special correspondent for the show this month. The program will feature her gender transition in a story slated to air on Tuesday. A story airing on Wednesday will show her piloting a news helicopter for the first time since completing gender reassignment surgery last June.

"Hello Inside Edition, it's the new me," she says in an ad promoting the episode.

Tur gained national attention for her work while covering the April 1992 mob beating of Reginald Denny and the police highway pursuit of O.J. Simpson in 1994. She founded the Los Angeles News Service with her wife at the time, Marika Gerrard.

"There's diversity in nature, so why not the media?" she said in a statement. "I want to thank Inside Edition for their support in what's shaping up to be America's last civil rights fight.

Deadline reported that in 2013, Tur admitted to feeling different about her abilities as a pilot while she was going through hormonal therapy preceding her surgery.

"There is a difference; it's not just strength," Tur told TMZ. "The irony has not been lost on me I thought I was a pretty good pilot. It's different. There is a major difference in the way men and women think. It's exquisite."
