Trump's hardcore 'fanatics' are inadvertently sealing a win for swing-state Democrat: Arizona columnist

One of the biggest pickup opportunities for Republicans in next year's Senate elections will be in Arizona, where Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) will try to hold on after beating incumbent Martha McSally by less than three percentage points.

But according to Arizona Republic columnist Laurie Roberts, former President Donald Trump's hardcore "fanatics" in the state are making Kelly's job much easier by pushing for GOP Senate hopeful and current Attorney General Mark Brnovich to start jailing political opponents based on bogus "voter fraud" claims.

"Never mind that even the auditors acknowledge they found no evidence of fraud, only 'anomalies' for which there may be logical explanations. (There are.)," she writes. "Despite that inconvenient fact, far-right fanatics – hoping to ride the audit into higher office or greater fame or fatter wallets – are putting pressure on Brnovich to start arresting people."

Included among the voices calling for Brnovich to throw Maricopa County officials in jail are gubernatorial hopeful Kari Lake and state Sen. Wendy Rogers.

"The arrest-'em-all fanatics don't seem content with mere appetizers thrown their way in the form of a promise to investigate," Roberts writes. "They are demanding generous, juicy slabs of red meat – the bloodier the better. Unfortunately for Brnovich, the blood left on the floor may, in the end, be his own."
