Iowa's top law enforcement official gave a full-throated endorsement of former President Donald Trump, but drew immediate scorn over her comment Tuesday night that Republicans need to vote for the MAGA leader — a convicted felon — because the party puts criminals "where they belong: in jail."
Brenna Bird, the attorney general in her state, spoke Tuesday night and blasted "defund the police" Democrats like President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for making "life miserable for law enforcement."
"They treat police like criminals, and criminals like victims," she said.
The "radical left," she added, "believes in handouts — not handcuffs."

Bird said Republicans get justice for crime victims, and then made the comment that reverberated throughout the internet.
"They put criminals where they belong ... in jail!" she said. "That's why we need to elect President Donald J. Trump."
The internet reminded Bird that Trump was convicted in May of 34 felony counts after prosecutors said he paid adult movie star Stormy Daniels money to silence her in the lead-up to the 2016 election.
