While campaigning for Tallahassee mayor and Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum in Miami, former President Barack Obama dropped a ton of wisdom. The best of his comments are below.
"Why is it that the folks who won the last election are so mad all the time?" the president asked the crowd as a heckler shouted at him from the crowd.
The former president acknowledged that "one election is not suddenly going to eliminate poverty," "racism or sexism or homophobia."
Nevertheless, Obama noted that "it'll be a start."
"I know Republicans may thinkthat government should onlyperform a few functions," Obama said, "but oneof those functions should betaking care of folks after ahurricane in Puerto Rico."
Donald Trump and the GOP, the former president said, are "telling you the existential threat to America is a bunch of poor refugees 1,000 miles away."
Obama said that he hopes when America is "out of this political darkness," it will see "a great awakening of citizenship all across the country."
