'A paranoid fringe, steeped in racial resentment': Hillary Clinton nukes Trump and the alt-right

Hillary Clinton on Thursday delivered a blistering indictment of Donald Trump and his "alt-right" supporters by exposing their ties to white nationalists and other racist movements.

During the speech, Clinton ripped into Trump for playing to the paranoid fringe of far-right media outlets such as Breitbart News and Alex Jones's InfoWars.

"From the start, Donald Trump has built his campaign on prejudice and paranoia," she said. " and helping a radical fringe take over one of America's two political parties. His disregard for the values that make our country great is profoundly dangerous."

Clinton specifically went after Trump's partnership with Breitbart News, which was recently solidified when Trump hired Breitbart boss Steve Bannon to be his campaign's CEO.

"The de facto merger between Breitbart and the Trump campaign represents a landmark achievement for the 'alt-right,'" Clinton said. "There's always been a paranoid fringe in our politics, steeped in racial resentment. But it's never had the nominee of a major party stoking it, encouraging it, and giving it a national megaphone. Until now."

Clinton also hit Trump for his own conspiratorial musings, which have included questioning the validity of President Obama's birth certificate, insinuating that Ted Cruz's father helped Lee Harvey Oswald kill JFK, and claiming that global warming is a myth created by the Chinese government to weaken America.

"A man with a long history of racial discrimination, who traffics in dark conspiracy theories drawn from the pages of supermarket tabloids, should never run our government or command our military," Clinton said. "If he doesn't respect all Americans, how can he serve all Americans?"

Clinton also nailed Trump for his pitch to black voters in recent days, in which he has said they have "nothing to lose" by voting for them because their lives are so miserable.

"It really does take a lot of nerve to ask people he’s ignored and mistreated for decades, ‘What do you have to lose?'" she said. "The answer is: 'Everything.'"

Clinton also went over Trump's multiple racist comments in the past, including his "Birther" attacks on President Obama; his declaration that Judge Gonzalo Curiel couldn't fairly oversee the Trump University case because he was a "Mexican"; and his false claim that "thousands" of Muslims in New Jersey celebrated the 9/11 terror attacks.

"This is what happens when you treat the National Enquirer like gospel," she said.
