ABC's Robin Roberts breaks down in tears on live TV while covering Las Vegas massacre

A Monday massacre in Las Vegas that left more than 50 dead and over 400 injured caused ABC host Robin Roberts to choke up during a live broadcast.

On an extended edition of Good Morning America, Roberts and co-host George Stephanopoulos spoke to a mother who narrowly escaped death in the shooting.

The woman explained that she saw men die as they effectively became human shields for their loved ones.

"There were men going over their wives, their girlfriends to block them," the survivor explained. "Those men got shot."

As the woman talked, Roberts' eyes watered up.

"What you endured," she said as her voice cracked, "by the grace of God."

"Oh, it gets to you," Roberts added, repeatedly pausing to collect herself. "When you're hearing what these people have been going through."

"To hear her talk about people were so unselfish, people they didn't already know to try and help them," the ABC host remarked emotionally. "We're hearing from so many people."
