Actor Nicholas Cage must surrender stolen dinosaur skull he bought at auction for $267,000

Actor Nicholas Cage has agreed to turn over a dinosaur skull he purchased at auction in 2007 after federal authorities informed him it was stolen, the Guardian is reporting.

Last week Manhattan U.S. attorney Preet Bharara filed a civil forfeiture complaint in an effort to reclaim the stolen skull, but Cage's name was not listed.

Cage's publicist admitted that the actor purchased the Tyrannosaurus bataar skull via an auction at Beverly Hills gallery, I.M. Chait, for $276,000, reportedly outbidding fellow actor Leonardo Di Caprio.

Cage was informed by the Department of Homeland Security in July of 2014 that the skull might be stolen property, and has agreed to turn it over.

According to authorities, the actor is not accused of any wrongdoing.
