Prosecutors demolished Ahmaud Arbery killers' main defense in court: Florida attorney

On CNN Thursday, Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg walked through how the prosecution tore to pieces the defense of Gregory and Travis McMichael, the vigilantes who fatally shot Black man Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia.

"Did the prosecution effectively dismantle what the defendant was saying over the past couple days?" asked anchor Wolf Blitzer.

"She sure did," said Aronberg. "The main thrust of the defense argument is that it is a citizens arrest, but she pointed out that this defendant never told police about a citizens arrest. There were other inconsistencies. The defendants never saw Arbery with a weapon. They never saw him steal anything."

Aronberg then details why the prosecutor's performance on Thursday was particularly effective.

"This case is going really well for the prosecution," continued Aronberg. "What the prosecution was able to do was to leave in the air the prospect that this defendant was chasing Ahmaud Arbery, ambushed him because he saw a Black guy jogging through their neighborhood. She didn't have to say it, but that is the impression the jury was left with, which is the brilliance of her cross-examination."
