Alabama GOP mayor denies calling her black opponent the N-word: 'I think I’ve been hacked'

An outgoing mayor in Alabama is denying reports that she posted racial slur on her Facebook page about her black rival, the newly elected mayor of Midland City.

After mayor Patsy Capshaw Skipper was defeated by Jo Ann Bennett Grimsley this week, she reportedly posted the comment "I lost. The ni**er won" on her Facebook page.

Grimsley is the first African American to be elected mayor in the city.

Skipper told the Dothan Eagle that she hasn't been able to use Facebook because of technical problems.

“My Facebook has been messed up for several weeks and I haven’t been using it,” Skipper said. “I think I’ve been hacked.”

She added that she recently underwent heart surgery and her Facebook account "has been the least of my worries."

Several city officials were furious over the alleged racial slur.

“It’s ridiculous now, ridiculous, and this is who is representing me?" Midland City Councilman George Williams told WTVY. "Come on. Get real! She should of resigned yesterday. I really don’t understand her thought process and saying something like that in 2016.”

“It’s appalling,” Arlissa Minniefield, who used to serve as magistrate in Midland City, told the Dothan Eagle. “As a former employee there, to know that you worked under people that had those kinds of feelings is very disheartening.”
