Alabama man who gunned down mother in front of her two young children was ‘tired of arguing’

Jefferson County sheriff's arrested a man on Thursday after he called them and admitted that he shot his girlfriend in front of two of her children, AL.com reports.

According to investigators, 39-year-old Jeremy Hardin walked up and shot Jody Marie Watson, 38, from behind, telling police that he was just tired of arguing with her.

Dispatchers received Hardin's 911 call at approximately the same time they received a second 911 call from a neighbor who said Watson's two children had come to their house and said their mother had been shot.

Chief Deputy Randy Christian said the small children witnessed the shooting but were not injured. Watson also had an older son, but he was at school when the incident occurred.

According to detectives, Hardin said that he and Watson had a history of fighting and that he wanted it to stop. Police report that they received three prior reports of domestic violence at the home -- the most recent call taking place on March 9.

Officers were dispatched for the March call, but Watson refused to press charges.

"This is a heart-wrenching case. How a man can take the life of someone he professes to care about is beyond understanding. To do it in front of her children is purely dark-hearted,'' Christian said. "Our hearts and prayers are with her family and most especially with those children."

Hardin, who has no previous criminal record was released after posting $50,000. Charges have yet to be filed.
