Alabama pastor accused of repeatedly raping teenage relative at church, home

An Alabama pastor is accused of raping a teenage relative repeatedly at his home and church.

A judge set bond Thursday at $2 million for William Best, who was charged with second-degree rape, second-degree sodomy, and incest.

Prosecutors said they believed that was the highest bond ever set in Dallas County for those types of charges, but they felt the evidence in the case warranted a higher bond than the initial $250,000 that was set.

Sheriff Harris Huffman said investigators had “solid DNA evidence” directly linking Best to the crimes, and prosecutors said additional charges are possible.

The pastor’s attorney said Best, who was arrested Tuesday, was “devastated” and “worried about his family.”

Best had served for three years as pastor of Living Waters Worship Center in Valley Grande.

He’s accused of sexually abusing the girl dozens of times during that three-year period, beginning when she was 14 years old.

Investigators have seized a computer from Best’s office that they believe has pornographic images of the girl, who has been placed under the care of a family member.

A sign outside the worship center read: “Pray for our church – God will see us through.”

Authorities aren’t sure whether there are additional victims in the case.
