Allen West: Donald Sterling's racist remarks a distraction from Benghazi

Former Florida congressman and Tea Party darling Allen West told Fox News Radio's Brian Kilmeade on Wednesday that the outrage directed at L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling is misplaced.

According to Media Matters, West said that while Sterling may have said some reprehensible things, the scandal is just a distraction from what happened in the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012.

Sterling was banned for life by National Basketball Association Commissioner Adam Silver and fined $2.5 million on Tuesday after audiotape surfaced over the weekend of an argument Sterling had with his mistress V. Stiviano.

In the argument, Sterling ordered Stiviano not to associate with "minorities" in a public fashion. The billionaire investor and team owner was angry with Stiviano for appearing in an Instagram photo with basketball legend Magic Johnson, who is African-American.

West feels that the ire directed at Sterling is misplaced, and that what Americans should really be focusing on is Benghazi.

Sterling's comments, said West, are "disgusting. They're despicable. They're reprehensible. There's no doubt about that. And, you know, there's no place for that type of attitude or behavior."

"But what is really concerning," he continued, "as I listen to the sound-bite montage that you played -- where is the outrage of the public? The outrage of the public seems to be totally focused on Mr. Sterling but, you know, you've got this thing with Benghazi and we have an even bigger lie, an even bigger deceit, which is even more impactful on the country that no one is really caring about."

"Alright," agreed Kilmeade, who also hosts Fox & Friends with Steve Doocy and Elisabeth Hasselbeck, "we'll get to that in a second, and I see the relation there."
