'Desperate': Ex-Trump staffer hits back after campaign accuses her of inciting violence

The Trump campaign accused former administration staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin on Monday of trying to incite more assassination attempts against the former president — an accusation she swatted aside as patently ridiculous.

The conflict began when Griffin, who cut ties with Trump during his efforts to stop certification of the 2020 election results and has become one of his harsh critics on cable news, posted on X that Trump's days in politics are likely over.

"Trump has been the most powerful force in Republican politics in at least 20 years. He’s broken rules no one else could, he’s exceeded expectations, & proved predictions wrong. He’s had unbelievable comebacks. But I suspect we may be seeing the end of the Trump era," wrote Griffin. "After nearly a decade running for POTUS, Trump may have hit his ceiling. There simply may not be significantly more votes for Trump to earn from an exhausted public ready for new blood. And now he’s up against a younger, more dynamic opponent, with a higher ceiling."

The Trump War Room account responded by posting, "DESPICABLE! Co-host from The View calling for the end of Trump, hoping to inspire violence once more."

"Desperate and false. But of course you know this," replied Griffin.

George Conway, a conservative attorney and fellow prominent Trump critic, weighed in, adding, "They really have dialed up the lying."

This comes after the Trump campaign has tried to leverage the assassination plots against the former president, one of which left him with a bleeding ear in Pennsylvania, by arguing they were incited by Vice President Kamala Harris calling Trump a danger to democracy and a fascist. There's no evidence any of these would-be killers supported Harris. Some of them had ties to the conservative Republican movement.

Harris has refused to dignify this accusation with any seriousness, and many Democratic surrogates are quick to point out that not only have Trump, running mate J.D. Vance, and many other Republicans called Harris a danger to democracy and a fascist, but Trump incited a violent mob against Congress to try to prevent his opponent from being confirmed as president.
