'Amateur hour at Trump Tower': MSNBC legal analyst mocks ‘clickbait chumps’ Jared and Don Jr

MSNBC legal analyst Jonathan Turley can't get over the fact that Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner met with a Russian attorney promising dirt on Hillary Clinton during the presidential campaign.

The president's son posted copies of the emails setting up the June 9, 2016, meeting arranged by a business associate who clearly indicated the information came from the Russian government, which hoped to assist Trump in the campaign.

"This meeting is shocking, just because it was sort of amateur hour at the Trump Tower," Turley said. "I mean, who would go to a meeting like this?"

He believes the meeting may have been set up as a bait-and-switch, as Trump Jr. has claimed, but the George Washington University law professor said "being a chump doesn't make you a criminal."

But he said the episode showed a startling lack of judgment by Trump Jr., Kushner and campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

"It is still quite shocking that anyone would go to this meeting," Turley said. "You know, it shows -- it sort of portrays these guys as, like, clickbait chumps who go to a meeting with a lawyer they don't know after this e-mail, which they should have reported to the Justice Department."
