MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell suggested on Tuesday that United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley may have her eye on a South Carolina Senate seat.
After Haley announced that she was resigning, Mitchell said that South Carolina's current senator, Lindsey Graham (R), might take a job in President Donald Trump's cabinet to open up the Senate seat. Although Graham has feigned disinterest in a cabinet job, many think he would be in line for Attorney General if Jeff Sessions is forced to step down.
"Andrea, have you heard anything new related to the reasons for why?" MSNBC host Hallie Jackson asked the veteran reporter. "Nikki Haley is she says it’s because she wanted a break."
"One doesn’t know whether or not there would be some future opening in South Carolina for a senator, for instance, if Lindsey Graham moves up in the cabinet," Mitchell said. "So there could be a lot of other things involved as well."
In an interview over the weekend, Graham insisted that he had "zero interest" in joining the president's cabinet.
